I remember being taken for a tour of the old council chambers in Beaufort street as a kid in the 50's. About the same time the old market in the same buildings was revived for a day for some festival. I wondered if these old buldings were still extant.

I have an almost photographic memory. I can recall most of brynmawr circa 1950-1961. My father used to walk me round the town pointing out where the the old mines, tramways and pubs were. He was very proud of his town.

Babs .. whereby was the Grocers in King Street? Was it near the Bush Pub as that was on the corner .. and still is.

Lornie Loo .... 250 King St is towards Beaufort isn't it? That would be the 'top' end of King Street . or is it towards the Bridgend Pub towards Clydach?

Evo ... I remember 'Mickey Jacobs' shop on the corner of King Street / Clydach street. I can remember buying sweets from there on my way home from school!! Wink

im all excited now! yes it is by the pub. it was on the corner of kings street. it was owned by my grandfather llewellyn williams and his wife blodwen. apparently he wasnt a well man with a real ashtma problem (i dont think i spelt that right!) the cottage next to the shop was their home. the shop itself was also a cottage. my grandmother eileen (their daughter) worked in the shop also. it was then sold to one of blodwens sisters. i think their last name was davies. my great grandparents had the shop during ww 2 but i dont know for how long before or after. if anyone has any info / memories then i would greatly appreiciate it if you could share anything.
